Get Active During March, National Kidney Month

What are YOU doing this March?

March is National Kidney Month, and if you haven’t made plans already, now is the time to do so.

Kidney patients will make their voices heard in Washington, DC on March 3-4 at the inaugural Kidney Patient Summit hosted by the National Kidney Foundation (NKF).  Nearly 80 patient and family members representing the NKF, Alport Syndrome Foundation, American Association of Kidney Patients, IGA Nephropathy Foundation of America, The Nephcure Foundation, and Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation will meet with Members of Congress and their staff to share their personal stories and advocate for policies that promote early detection and additional federal research funding for kidney disease.

Featured speakers include former Senator Bob Bennett (R – Utah), a polycystic kidney disease (PKD) patient, and Dr. Griffin Rodgers, Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

A Breakfast Briefing for congressional staff, sponsored by the National Kidney Foundation, with the support of Congressman Dave Camp (R-MI) and other members of the Congressional Kidney Caucus is planned as well.

While this group of patient and family members speak up on Capitol Hill,  to help put a face on kidney disease, you can do your part to raise awareness from your home state!

1)     Follow NKF on Twitter and Facebook and repost our postings.  Also follow your lawmakers and tag them in postings!  Check out our Social Media Guide and be sure to use the hashtag #KidneyMonth

2)     Share your kidney disease story with Congress by completing our Action Alert.

3)     Print out the below “National Kidney Month” image on a full sheet of paper, write clearly and in LARGE LETTERS what early detection of kidney disease means to you, have your photo taken holding the sign, post and tag NKF and #KidneyMonth

Please complete our Advocacy Activity Tracker to let us know what you did during National Kidney Month!
