On September 18, Alabama voters overwhelmingly approved a constitutional amendment to transfer money from the Alabama Trust Fund to the state General Fund to supplement general funding for programs that would have been subject to significant reductions 2013, including Medicaid. The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) was a member of a coalition to help build awareness of the referendum and we are relieved to know that Medicaid patients will not risk losing access to dialysis. Various letters to the editor were published prior to the vote, including one from NKF Board of Directors Member Jane Davis, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
NKF is very pleased that Alabama Medicaid patients will not risk losing access to dialysis.
